The Nutritional F#!K It Phase
We are going to dive into what I like to call the Fuck It Phase. This phase is where we are eating whatever we want to eat, whenever we want to eat it and there is a part of us that does not want to let this pattern go. This phase has a lot of wisdom to offer. The more we resist that we are in this phase, often the longer this phase will last.
Reasons why the Fuck It Phase can arise:
-we are avoiding something: emotions, a conversation, a truth, a change that is wanting to occur
-we have been too restrictive with ourselves: potentially denying pleasure from food, overexercising, undereating, and staying up late and waking up early
-time of year: when holidays, birthdays, or celebrations are occurring and for many, a celebration is only pleasurable when paired with eating decadent food
If you have been in this phase or identify that you're in this phase now, here are some questions you can begin to explore to retrieve the wisdom this phase has to provide.
1. Get to know the inner Fuck It voice. Who is this part of you? If they had an age how old would they be? What sparks them to say Fuck It?
2. What does this part of you believe you will receive from the foods you're eating? Do you believe you will receive relaxation, inner peace, calm, control? Are you actually receiving these emotions and sensations an hour after that eating experience?
3. Do you have any memories from the past that include the foods you're eating? How did you feel in those moments of eating that food in that prior incident? Are you looking to feel that same way now in your life through the vehicle of eating the same food?
4. What sparked the Fuck It phase? What has been going on in your life recently? What are your stress levels like? Is there some part of you trying to gain a sense of control over something?
By cultivating awareness of what is emotionally coming up and how the Fuck It Phase is trying to serve and protect you in some way, we can own and appreciate where we are at faster, acknowledge that we have been doing the best we could to take care of ourselves with the awareness we have had in any moment, and explore what new actions we might want to start taking. When you notice that the Fuck It Phase is not actually giving you what you desire, that is the moment small changes can begin to occur as you explore what actions would provide you with the sensations and emotions you're striving to create in your body.
Be gentle with yourself during this phase. When we approach where ever we are at with curiosity we can step into any situation with a sense of wonder of what it has to teach us and learn and grow from everything we experience.
